Stena Recycling Halmstad

At Stena Recycling's facility in Halmstad, Helios Innovations installed its first full-scale demonstration facility in 2023. During the operating period, it was used to develop, test, and validate new technology for handling liquid waste from multiple industrial sources. After the demonstration phase was completed, the facility was taken out of operation in the summer of 2026. The experience and results from the project form an important foundation for Helios Innovations' continued technology development.

Challenge

Process water from various industries contains substances that are difficult to treat with conventional technology. Many streams entail high opportunity costs and generate large waste volumes if left untreated.

Solution

A full-scale demonstration facility powered by waste heat was developed to purify mixed industrial water streams, while the facility also served as a testbed for next-generation purification materials.

Our results

Validated purification technology

The project demonstrated how difficult-to-treat water streams containing, among other things, PFAS, heavy metals and mixed industrial pollutants can be handled with high purification performance.

Platform for technology development

The facility made it possible to test and demonstrate new materials and components at full scale. The experiences have provided valuable knowledge for the development of future installations in Sweden and Europe.

Verified flexibility

The demonstration phase showed that the technology can be adapted to water from different industrial processes and to varying pollution levels. This confirms the solution's potential across multiple industries and applications.

Forward-looking

From demonstration to next generation

The demonstration facility in Halmstad has now been taken out of operation. The project has given Helios Innovations valuable operational data, practical experience and technical insights that are now being passed on to the next generation of waste management for liquid waste.

The collaboration with Stena Recycling has been an important part in developing and validating the technology under real industrial conditions. The results strengthen Helios Innovations' ability to create scalable solutions for a more sustainable and resource-efficient industry.
